Business Description:
Home Again Los Angeles (HALA) emerged from the compassion of dedicated volunteers, including local faith leaders, aiming to assist situationally homeless families, often overshadowed by the chronic homeless scenario. The spark was ignited when Jennifer Greene-Smith, one of our founding members, was inspired by the Family Promise National organization, and together with Pastor Paul Clairville, introduced this vision to our community, fostering dialogues and fundraising events between 2008-2010 to lay the foundation for HALA.
The journey began in earnest in July 2010, when our doors opened to shelter the first family. For four years, we tirelessly provided support, while our local congregational partners generously offered overnight stays and meals. The year 2014 was a time of reflection as we momentarily paused operations to revitalize our strategies and resources, marking it with an annual benefit that significantly fueled our mission both in awareness and funds.
The revitalization soared with the appointment of a new CEO, Albert Hernandez in 2015, who spearheaded the expansion of our services and partnerships. From rapid rehousing to homeless prevention programs, the evolution was palpable, growing our staff from 2 to 14 and extending our reach across three sites. Our enduring commitment has since steered over 600 homeless families back into the warm embrace of permanent housing, epitomizing a community's boundless capacity to nurture and rebuild.
