Surviving Networking Events
Before
Clean up your online presence and update your social media profiles. This helps new connections see what you are about and it gives you a refresher on your professional talking points. Have your one-minute commercial and small talk topics ready before you go!
During
Be personable and open. Smile! Talk to everyone – even someone who doesn’t need your products or services, they have friends and family with needs. They may even become an invaluable resource or mentor. Remember and use everyone’s name. Collect everyone’s business cards.
After
Follow up with everyone you talked to, as soon as you can. 48 hours is standard. Send personal follow-up emails and LinkedIn request – remind them why you are someone they should be connected with. Find more events – because networking never ends! Practice makes perfect.
