Networking Q&A: How Do I Take a NO and Turn It into a Positive Experience
Question: How do I take a no and turn it into a positive experience?
Answer: This question is about overcoming fear of rejection. Of course, no one likes to be rejected, but it’s definitely part of networking and putting yourself out there. I have come to approach the “no’s” I receive in the following manner:
- When you are out networking, focus on the belief that you are looking to meet the people who are looking for you or the people who can benefit from doing business with you.
- Acknowledge that not everyone you meet will be “your people”, and that’s okay.
- Begin to embrace that every “no” can bring you that much closer to the “yes” you are looking for.
- If fear of rejection is a HUGE problem for you, you may struggle with self-worth issues. If this is the case, take time to work on you. Talk to a coach, see a counselor, or take part in some personal development work. Investing in you can help you overcome these feelings so it’s easier to accept the “no’s” you receive from others in your business.
